Why cross-border comparisons are tricky
US mpg uses US gallons; UK mpg uses imperial gallons — they are not the same unit. Most of Europe and Asia quote L/100km or km/L instead of mpg at all. Electric vehicles add mi/kWh, MPGe, and kWh/100mi on top. Simple division between these figures gives wrong answers; Mila's Fuel & EV Converter applies the correct conversion factors for each standard.

- What is the difference between US mpg and UK mpg?
- Both measure miles per gallon, but a UK (imperial) gallon is larger than a US gallon. The same car gets a higher UK mpg number — this app converts correctly between the two.
- Can I compare a gas car's mpg to an EV's mi/kWh?
- Yes. The app includes electric units like mi/kWh, MPGe, and kWh/100mi alongside combustion standards, so you can translate between gas and electric efficiency figures.
- Does higher mpg always mean better efficiency?
